Why is my pet rabbit so darn mean?

Every time I attempt to pet or handle my dwarf rabbit he growls and scratches me. I haven’t been able to let him out to roam around the porch because it is so difficult to get him back in to his cage. I don’t know what to do. Any ideas?

When my rabbit started biting a friend told me to get a salt lick because they need salt and can sense the salt on out skin and are just trying to get it. I didn’t think it would work but my rabbit never bit anyone again after that. they are cheap and sold in pet shops and last a couple of months as long as they don’t get wet. Make sure your rabbit has plenty of fresh water available at all times as it makes them thirsty. It is worth a try!
Maybe it doesnt like you…
It can take a really long time to earn your rabbit’s trust. There are some good articles at rabbit.org (http://www.rabbit.org/faq/sections/aggression.html) about working with an aggressive rabbit. You just have to be really patient. Sometimes it helps to bring them food/treats so they will start to associate your presence with something positive
How old is he?
Start off slow trying to gain his trust. Sit by his cage and talk to him softly for a few days or a week. Then get some fresh greens and fruit and hand feed him for another week while your talking to him. Eventually you’ll be able to pet him while he eats and then pick him up. He might struggle but hold him secure and hold him daily and he’ll get used to it.
Also, have him neutered. That can help to calm him done some.
