How do I get rid of this thing? It is driving me nuts, and I want to know of a known program to kick its rear. (Meaning, somethng that is well-heard-of; not something that could do more harm than good!)
Would Norton or McAfee work?

I have uninstalling instructions located here http://www.shawnstechspot.com/2009/03/ms-antispyware-2009-removal/
Norton Or McAfee may work but I prefer spyware doctor myself.
Malwarebytes!!
Antivirus 2009 is NOT an ativirus, it is a mixture of a blaster worm, a trojan (Smitfraud) virus, and 1 ransome ware malicius software.
WHAT IS IT
=-=-=-=-=-=
This is a mixture of 1 Ransom-ware, 1 Blaster Worm, and 1 Smitfraud virus. These are hard to neutralize but follow these steps as I have developed them over the last 2 years of the Blaster Worms intergration and merger with Smitfraud.
Although this is a low threat virus, it does effect your productivity in obvious ways.
WARNINGS
=-=-=-=-=-=-
DO NOT DO A SYSTEM RESTORE as it will only reinforce the infection.
DO NOT ALTER OR INSTALL ANTIVIRUS software until this threat is removed. As this may lead to kernel blue screens and Antivirus corruption.
DO NOT BACKUP FILES, doing so may transfer the virus.
DO NOT EMAIL ANYONE, This is a Worm and therefore will attempt to send itself to your contacts.
HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED!!!

Download malwarebytes: http://www.malwarebytes.org
and
Download ESET 4.0: http://www.eset.com
ESET (NOD32) is the top Anti-Virus, Anti-Spyware, Rootkit, Firewall, All-In-One protection on the market and web. You can’t go wrong with it and it will remove all your viruses.
(if you have Vista, however, get the 3.** version it works best with it:

Also download SpywareBlaster and Spybot Search & Destroy to block the bad sites and those ads which put cookes on your computer
Here is a list of free online virus scans Safety.Live.com (That one is Microsoft’s) Symantec.com Housecall.TrendMicro.com Comodo.com…Comodo.com offers free manual disinfection and a free security suite from the makers of Comodo Firewall Pro…Avira.com now offers free antivirus and antispyware…besure to turn off onboard antivirus before starting online scanner
It’s a bogus site, as you know. ZoneAlarm seems to take care of it.
I also take note of the name of it or the address and add it to my internet options restricted sites list.
I think Norton Anti-Virus blocks it and kills it, but it’s too slow for me and is too taxing on my memory. Trend Micro should have the latest on what you can kill it with.
I would recommend Malwarebytes (free), AVG (free) and C Cleaner (free). You should be covered with those 3.
